The House
7 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, attic sleeps 5
The Tannersville Farmhouse had been a working dairy farm providing milk and milk products to the Haines Falls, Tannersville, and Hunter communities, for over 100 years.
Our home has been on this site above the pasture since 1925. It was carried up the slope to its current location on the shoulders of family members and farmhands with the assistance of 25-foot oak beams. It was placed upon the ground floor level that has been made with concrete and stone. Parts of the original chimney can be found in the pasture near the barn road, now called Seide Street.
The structure was not as large as it is now it was comprised of two stories with three small bedrooms. Once it was in place, a new chimney was constructed out of brick and stone. Over time the house has grown, the porch was added when an auction landed the set of pillars that support it. That was followed by the kitchen - in the space between the current kitchen and the sunroom, and the "King" bedroom on the second floor. The garage was added in the 1950s with the two bedrooms and bathroom on the main floor. The current kitchen location was a 1980s addition as was the master bedroom on the second floor and the mud-room.
Finally, the aughts, brought with it the current kitchen, that opens onto the patio and the pool area, the pool itself, the under porch area, the new bedroom and bath on the ground floor, and the expansion of the attic from a crawl space into an actual, livable space.
Since it has been in our family we have allowed the pasture to be rewilded and have continued to update the home in ways that we feel make it more comfortable for modern life without forfeiting its bucolic setting.
